Heavy Duty Steering Gearbox Bracket For Jeep CJ's

The Sam's Offroad replacement steering box bracket was designed in 1996 by our fabricator and mechanic Mike Cox. This bracket is made out of 1/2 inch plate steel and is a must for any CJ running 33 to 39 inch tires.

 This bracket looks similar to the one above but moves your steering box forward 3/4 of an inch. This will give you the added clearance you need for your pitman arm and drag length. This is a must if your CJ is running a shackle reversal.

Sam's Offroad Heavy Duty Pittman Arm

If you are tired of your stock cast iron steering arm bending then replace it with the Sam's Offroad Heavy Duty Pittman Arm.

Our Pittman arms are made of A36 cold rolled steel and is 30 - 50% stronger than stock cast arms. 

There are two sizes available, stock Jeep (5/8 to 1/2 Taper) and Chevy one ton (3/4 to 5/8 Taper).

These arms will fit CJ, YJ, TJ, XJ and J10's with power steering.

Borgenson Steering Shafts

These unique steering systems are designed to completely update the OEM steering system. The slip shaft kit includes a needle bearing universal join for the column and the steering box, and a 36" DD shaft (which can be cut to length). The system allows for approximately one inch of movement, eliminating binding caused by chassis flex. The result is a smooth, responsive steering system.

Installation Tips

PHASING--Keep the forks of the yokes closest to each other in line and parallel to the center of the shaft to avoid binding.

Set screws are supplied on all Splined and "Double D" U-joints. However, it is necessary to indent (by drilling) the shaft to properly secure the set-screw mechanism. Loc-Tite should also be used.
The shaft should be flush with the ends of the U-joint yoke‹ too short could sacrifice strength and too long will cause the shaft to interfere with the operation of the U-joint.

Sam's Offroad Heavy Duty Traction Bar

Sam Patton & Mike Cox designed and fabricated the traction bar back in 1996. 
The idea came about when we noticed  spring wrap a curing on spring over conversions we performed at our shop on CJ's and YJ's.   If you had a stock motor there really wasn't a problem.  But if you had a V8 or some really big aggressive tires then you were slinging out your rear drive shaft.
 
This traction bar if often copied but never duplicated. We use the thickest material available and we've designed it so your travel and flexibility of your rig is not hampered.

Our traction bar is 33 inches long and features 1.5 inch diameter DOM tubing that is .375 thick.
On the front we have a Johnny Joint mounted on a shackle, then the shackle attaches to the transfer case cross  member or our custom Sams Offroad Cross Member.
 
 
The rear mounts are polyurethane with greasable bolts. The top mount is adjustable and the bottom mount is fixed. Rear axle mounting brackets must be welded on the axle housing so make sure you have a welder. We recommend the Heavy Duty traction bar for Jeeps, Land cruisers and Bronco's that have a lot of horse power and running big aggressive tires.

Sam's Offroad Traction Bar

We understand that not everyone needs our Heavy Duty Traction Bar,
so we came up with this lighter duty model.

On this model we use 1 inch diameter DOM tubing, thickness is 0.156 of a inch, length, 33 inches. The front of the traction bar has a Johnny Joint mounted on a shackle, then the shackle attaches to the transfer case cross member or you can use our custom Sams Offroad Cross Member.

The rear mounts are polyurethane with greasable bolts. The top mount is adjustable and the bottom mount is fixed. Rear axle mounting brackets are included and must be welded on. 

One other thing to remember, depending on how your exhaust is run. You might have to modify it to clear the traction bar.

We recommend this traction bar for light duty applications. An example would be a rig that has 33 inch tires running a spring over powered by a stock 6 cylinder motor. Anything more and you will need the Sams Offroad Heavy Duty traction bar.
